Wow…unbelievable! One of my blog post is actually on the first page of Google, under certain keywords obviously. Those keywords are “western digital element 1tb” and “WD elements 1tb”. It’s pretty cool actually, because my post was there along with wdc.com, amazon.com, and newegg.com.
I don’t know how it happened, but it just happened. May be you can tell me why. My analysis tells me that I was because of the title of the post itself, “HOT DEAL for Western Digital Elements 1TB”, and the several times I mentioned about “ Western Digital Elements 1 TB” and “WD Elements 1TB” in the post itself. I think Google evaluate my post based on its relevancy with the keyword ”Western Digital Element 1TB”. Since Google found several variations of that keyword in my post, it must think that my post is highly related, therefore getting high rank for it.
Based on my observation, here are several tips on how to be on Google #1 page:
Before you create a post, think about the keyword (or keywords) that you want your post to score high rank on.
Find a good blog post title that incorporate that keyword as much as possible, without harming your reader. I mean, you can always use this big long keyword as your title, like “very hot super deal western digital hard drive 1 terra byte (1TB) the best deal in the planet,” but this keyword will not too appealing for readers and rather annoying.
When you write your blog post, keep the keywords in your mind, and taylor your writings to use those keywords through out the place in your post. Repetitive use is fine, as long as it doesn’t hurt the quality of the content.
Learn from past success. Track…Track…and Track.
What do you think? have you ever been on page #1 Google? how did you do that?
I have had problem with this for a long time, and I just had the answer yesterday. If you were using WP 2.7, you know what I’m talking about. It’s about the automatic upgrade feature using FTP connection.
At first, I’m so happy for this feature. This means that I don’t have to download the new upgrade (ex: plugins, core upgrade, etc.), deactivate my plugin, upload the new content to my server, and activate the plugin again. These whole processes are fine, but it was just such a hassle to do all of that. However, my happiness ended when I could not figure out how to get the FTP upgrade work.
When you want to upgrade using your FTP, you will be asked hostname, username, and password of your FTP account. I have already entered all of the information correctly, but still it says that it could not connect to the FTP server. I think the problem was in the hostname. After many reserach on the internet, I tried so many different hostnames: hostname, hostname.com, www.hostname.com, ftp://hostname.com, ftp.hostname.com, localhost, localhost://hostname.com, and many others that I already forgot; but none of them are working. So, I decided to just do manual upgrade.
Yesterday, I noticed that WP just released WP 2.7.1 from my dashboard, so I tried to upgrade it. My admin page offered me 2 different ways: Automatic Upgrade or Manual Upgrade. I decided to try automatic upgrade; because if not, then I have to either delete my old WP files and replace them with the new one, or just overwrite the whole things, which I affraid will leave unnecessary files in the folder hence wasting my server storage. Sure enough, I could not get the FTP to work. FINALLY, I came across this WP support article in which, one of them suggested to use “localhost:21” Voiillaaa…..it worked like a charm. My WP 2.7 was upgraded to 2.7.1 just fine, and I updated several of my plugins using the automatic update with no problem. So, the key is to use localhost, as your hostname, and specify which port you are using. The rests, your FTP username and password, are the same like your normal FTP username and password.
I’m assuming that this setting will not work for every WP installation as different web server might have different settings, which require you to use different hostname. But for those of you that haven’t found the answer yet for your FTP problem, you might want to use “localhost:21″ as your hostname. Who knows? It might be the answer you are looking for. Some people suggested to upgrade your PHP to version 5. I don’t know which one will work for you.
If you have had this FTP problem before, and now you have found a way to use your FTP automatic update feature, please share it here. It may be the right solution for some readers who also had FTP problem. Thanks.
This deal is SUPER Hot…I’m thinking to buy this for myself, but I’m still contemplating about it. Do you remember the birthday gift that I gave to Fandy Santoso? Yup, we gave him a black WD Elements 1TB. I bought it for $120, however, I found this great deal with much cheaper price. The hard drive was great. It’s guite, sturdy, fast, plug&play, huge capacity, the data transfer light is at the back so you won’t be bothered by it, it has rubber pad both at the front and at the back of the hard drive for protection, and so on.
I’m sure for those of you technology geek, like I am, you would find this deal rather tempting for you Here’s the deal:
You can get this Western Digital Elements 1 TB for $87.99 ($0.09/GB). HOW? I’m glad you asked. Just go to DELL Small Business to find this WD hard drive. You will find this hard drive for $109.99 (which is already pretty cheap at $0.11/GB). However, you can even lower the price again by $22 by entering this coupon code “3XQW3BK2SCTG4Q” to lower it to $87.99. Go ahead and check it out yourself, just go to DELL’s website. THIS DEAL WILL END ON 02/12/2009, so you would better be hurry.
Wow…we celebrated two people’s birthday two days in a row. Yesterday was Chang Hun, and now it was Fandy Santoso. We also “tricked” him for his surprise birthday party. I don’t know why do we always surprise someone for his birthday. It’s to make it more memorable, I guess; but personally, I prefer my birthday to be just a “normal” one. The reason is because if I’m expecting my friends to throw a party for me and they were not, I’ll be so disapointed
I and my friend, Irsan Linarta, called Fandy to ask him out on Saturday night to go to Red Lobster (fandy’s birthday is on Sunday, 08 Feb though). The reason is because Fandy received a red lobster voucher from his brother, so he can eat free there. I and Irsan have already agreed on what we are going to tell Fandy on the phone. The key is to ask him out somewhere at 6PM (the time when all of our friends gathered together for Fandy’s birthday). So, we called Fandy (on a conference call):
Irsan: “Since tomorrow is your birthday, why don’t we go out to Red Lobster? Plus, you will be working tomorrow night, so we don’t have time to celebrate your birthday tomorrow.”
Steven: “Red Lobster? wow…it’s so expensive.”
Irsan: “It is….but this is only one time thing. It’s for Fandy’s birthday.”
Steven: “Ok…why not”
Fandy: “What a coincidence…I just got a Red Lobster voucher from my bro.”
Irsan: “really…that’s great. Why don’t we go at 6PM?”
Steven: “No…I’m still full now. I just ate at 2 o’clock this afternoon.”
Fandy: “Yes, me too…I’m still full also.”
Irsan: “Ouw…come on…ok…Steven, why don’t you take me first to DHL store, I want to send some stuff, and go to the mall afterward, I forgot to buy something for a valentine gift. So, by the time we are done, it will be around 8PM.”
Steven: “Ok…that sounds good. Ask the others to come also.”
Fandy: “Ok, I am in. See you guys later at 6 PM.”
Yes!!! mission accomplished. hahahaa I purposely disagreed with Irsan in many things to make it more believable to Fandy. Irsan told me later that he had a tough time to “counter” my arguments though. wakakakaa Now, we were going to Red Lobster around 6PM. However, I stopped somewhere first pretending that I had to give some stuff to my friend. I opened the trunk pretending to get some stuff, while Fandy was in the car. Meanwhile, the other friends start to come out from the Commons (one of the building here on campus), and I start playing my guitar while they are approching my car to sing Happy Birthday. LOL…everything went smoothly. Fandy had no clue that it was going to be his birthday party. We had a great time together at the commons as we celebrate his birthday.
I love friendship. It what makes us growing stronger. A friend sacrifice his time and effort to make his friend happy.
Btw, we gave Fandy WD Element 1TB as a present. He quite shocked when he got the present. It’s something that he really wants, so he was really happy.
Fandy told me later that he sensed that something was just not right from the beginning when I called him, but he really didn’t realize that it’s going to be his birthday surprise party. hhahaha so he was completely clueless. I guess we are just that good in tricking people. We should get Oscar or Academy Award for this, I think.
After that, we are going to Macaroni and Grill the next day to celebrate Fandy’s birthday. It’s actually a really nice place, and a fancy one, I should say. The foods are great, the services are good, we even got complimentary chocolate cakes for Fandy’s birthday. It’s little bit pricy, but hey….it’s an Italian restaurant, and I ordered “Lobster Raviolli”, so the price of $15 a meal was reasonable.
