Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Phone Review

Some of you may have never heard the name of this Chinese Phone Manufacturer, Xiaomi. That’s understandable if you live in US or Europe, as this phone is not as widely available as it is in Asian countries.

Since now I live in Indonesia, I can get my hand on this Xiaomi product pretty easy. I typically go mainstream with my choice of Smartphone, because I need something that’s reliable and has good performance, so typically I go with Samsung or LG.

However, this time since my old Samsung Galaxy Noted Edge has died, I was intrigued to try out a budget phone.

Among several different budget phone brands, I ended up buying Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, which was release earlier this year in February’17.

I have been using this phone for almost 2 weeks now, so I’m confident enough to give objective reviews over this phone.

I will give you 4 reason, why you should buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X for your next phone 🙂

  1. Built & Design
The build and design of this phone are quite premium. The back is all metal-body. Only the top and bottom are made of plastic. It uses 2.5D screen, which is not the same to what you will find in the latest Samsung S8, but kinda similar, where the screen edges are raised to give you that curvy and smooth edges.
  2. Functionality
When it comes to functionality, this phone is packed with features. This is, by no means, a complete list of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X features, but I will try to list some of the important ones:
    – Double tap to wake up the screen
    – Long page screenshot (+ its three fingers gesture to capture your screen)
    – Finger print scanner
    – Infra Red for remote control
    – Quick Ball (like that one dot controller that you find on iOS)
    – Second Space (like having 2 devices on the same phone)
    – One-handed Mode (Reduce the screen size to a point where you can use one hand to operate the phone)
    – Dual Apps (Enables you to have 2 different account on the same device, ex: 2 Whatsapp apps on the same phone, but with different number)
    – App Lock (Lock your app with a password before opening the app)
    – … and many moreAs you can see that Xiaomi really utilizes its OS to give its user wider and better usage
  3. Battery Life
I think Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X battery life is one of the BEST phone out there with long battery life. This is definitely where Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X shines the brightest.Under moderate usage, I manage to get these much battery life.

I have used the phone for 15 hours 30+ minutes since I unplugged my phone from the charger, and it says that I still have close to 5 hours battery left. This gives me approximately 20+ hours of standby time.

With 24% battery left, I managed to get 7 hour 11 minute on my phone. If I were to leave the screen on all the time, it will give me a total of 9 hour 24 minutes screen on time.

All of this was done under 1.5 hour of gaming, 30+ min of Youtube, 30+ min of Waze, 30+ min of Whatsapp, and other normal usage (phone call, browsing, etc.)

The bottom line is that with Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Snapdragon 625, you won’t need a charger or powerbank anymore during the day!

  4. Price
Price is also one of its strongest point…and this is what made me considering Xiaomi phones in the 1st place. Can you guess how much this phone will cost you?? Is it $500 or $750?No…it just cost me less than $140. Isn’t it amazing or what? A phone with this quality with a price that’s very affordable for most of us.

Btw, it just so happened that tomorrow is the launching date of MIUI 9! I’m very excited to update my phone once it’s available.

Ok…enough for the good stuff. There are also some “bad stuff” about this phone:

  • Poor camera quality. Under sun light, the picture quality is ok (not the best either), but under low light, it performs very poorly. Picture looks grainy with low detail and contrast.
  • Decent graphic performance for gaming. I’m not saying that you can’t use this phone for gaming. It is definitely capable of doing some gaming, but you can’t compare this phone with Samsung Galaxy S8 in terms of its graphical power. It suffers small hiccups here and there when playing Eternium, but surprisingly doing ok when playing Asphalt 8.
  • The back side of the matte black version is a good fingerprint magnet, so make sure either you use a case to cover the back or get used to clean the back very often.

Btw, I have an important news for you. MIUI 9 is launching tomorrow on Wednesday, 26 July 2017.

If you are a previous owner of Xiaomi, you might ask “what’s new on MIUI 9?” One of the biggest improvement is its new “multi-window support”. This is probably the most wanted feature that MIUI users were requesting, since it’s already commonly available on other flagship brands, such as Samsung and LG. The good news is that you will be able to enjoy the Multi Screen support on Xiaomi pretty darn soon!

Other major improvements on MIUI 9 that you should look out for are

  • MIUI 9 Caller ID
  • SMS Scheduling
  • Project SVLTE
  • Screen Recording
